The mundane routine of a desk job fails to excite you? You are fascinated with adventure and want to be in a job that commands grit and determination. If you are averse to taking the easy route then the job of a police officer comes knocking at your door. A graduate from any discipline can aim to be a police officer.

However, it is only the beginning of the criteria. The Public Service Commission examination is the stepping stone for aspirants to become a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP). A DySP is usually given the authority to maintain law and order and is placed as the sub divisional police officer. Not only crime, but an aspiring police officer should also develop expertise in forensic analysis and traffic management. With competence and seniority a DySP can even move up to become an Inspector General of Police.

Opting for the Civil Service examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission is also the channel that will let a candidate join the Indian Police Service. IPS officers often start their career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. Qualifying the IPS means that the aspirant should be willing to join the police force of a state and look after the law and order of that state.

Every year the number of IPS officers selected depends upon the vacancies that are created. The police academies in India trains the police officers for various levels starting from the  constables, sub inspector, Deputy Superintendent of Police to Assistant Superintendent of Police. Training at the police academies cover areas like criminal justice, economic offence, internal security, leadership development and physical and mental ability.
