Seven Steps to Successful Resume Writing

Resume
How can you get a good job if you take resume writing for granted?
If you don’t know the ABCs of resume writing, how would you be able to prove to your prospective employers that you are what they are looking for: Imagine, you can’t even present or advertise yourself through a resume?

Believe it or not, but learning the intricacies or resume writing can make a big difference in your career path. The resume that you make not only tells who you are in a nutshell—it has also the power to magnetize job interviews or totally ruin your chances of having a brighter future!

Remember that resumes determine who among the hundreds of applicants that are applying for a particular position would get a job interview.

If you don’t want a human resource staff to either screen you out or throw your resume over the paper shredder again, then now is the right time to become skilled at resume writing.

The first rule in resume writing: What you think, you shouldn’t only speak it out eloquently, but be able to write it down clearly as well. Use nothing but effective and understandable words possible.

Follow the KISS principle, which could either stand for Keep It Short but Striking or Keep It Short Stupid! Make your resume very readable as possible: Pack it with aplenty of white spaces to comfort the eyes of the recruiter who would read it. When it comes to resume writing, remember that “less is more.”
Get rid of highfalutin words. Resume isn’t a venue to be humble, but it’s also not the proper place to inform an HR staff that your intelligence quotient is superior or above superior. Do not use terms or jargons that even a high school student won’t understand.

Avoid the “I disease” One of the important protocols in resume writing is never include “I” from your sentences. Removing this pronoun prevents wordiness and saves space. But write from the first-person point of view, as if you are giving a direct report towards your target employer.

Be precise in describing work experiences and/or achievements. Stand out from the hundreds of candidates—do not just be one of them! In resume writing, you can include facts and figures. Why say “supervised proofreaders when the supervisor isn’t around,” when you can tell “supervised 10 proofreaders in the absence of the supervisor?” The hiring staff must get to visualize your feats. Using words like “few,” “many,” “a couple of,” “very,” “much,” “some,” and so on is also a big no-no.

Use the active voice form of verb instead of passive voice. The former is shorter and more direct than the latter. What more, the active voice is more effective and forceful and tends to keep all the sentences clear and concise. Deleting helping verbs such as has, have, had, may and might as well as articles a, an and will also strengthen your resume writing skills.

Be watchful of your verb tenses. It’s common sense to say that all your previous duties and responsibilities should be in the past tense, and your current tasks and feats in the present tense or form. Wrong verb tenses are eyesores on resumes.

Proofread, proofread and proofread! Detect and correct all kinds of mistakes—grammatical, misspelled words and typographical errors. If you aren’t sure of your final output, you could ask a friend to proof read your resume for you.

How Can You Know Yourself?

Most every self-help courses start with the idea that you must know yourself before you can know what you are going to do and how you will act with others. Even he Bible tells us to “Know thyself.” before you can know God. Even though most people would claim they know who they are, in reality they don’t. People may have a general idea of what they like or want or may even have some sort of direction; but they don’t pursue what really makes them function as they do. Why do you react the way you do? What makes you get angry or happy? Most people can’t begin to answer these questions about themselves.

This is why some people require long term therapy with an analyst to help solve their problems. Psychiatrist can detect the complexities of people much better than the individuals themselves. They realize the layers of entrenched beliefs within the human mind must be approached with caution and restraint.

Common people do not evaluate the physiological side of someone else, because they could not detect abnormal traits without proper training. Even if they tried it would still take a trained professional to make a valid evaluation. Any evaluation of a person would differ from person to person. Certainly your evaluation of yourself would be strikingly different than any persons’ evaluation of you. You would tend to be harder in your assessment of yourself than someone else. Why? Because you know what your expatiations are and if you are living up to them.

Only you would know what you believe in and how you would react to different stimuli. Another person’s evaluation would be based on their own value system and their perception of how it should be structured. We see ourselves and the world from the inside out, others see us from the outside in. They see a projection of us, like an actor in a play. Remember the saying, “the world is a stage and we are only actors,” well it’s true. You project what you believe to be appropriate for the particular situation. That is why it is called “action” because you become engaged as the actor in the act. Because your actions are determined by your associations and experiences. How past encounters are interpreted will establish precedence for how it effects you in the future. No two individuals will make the same judgments and have the same reactions to a given situation. Just like everyone looks different and sounds different they also see the world from a slightly different angle, color and emotion. For a person to know him/herself is to have self assurance, but then, everyone harbors some fears and doubts that they don’t know about.

You can set down and self-evaluate yourself, but your examination would be bias and would never be true in the eyes of someone else. Their examination of you would always be tainted by their own self serving eccentrics. You can only make a determination of how you are going to accept or reject any particular person or thing, but not why you made the assessment. True assessments come from a mixture of previous determinations. These are accounted as values and morals which are driven by your individual, social, financial, physical, interaction, and religious considerations. These differences are what makes you an individual. The fact is, you can know what you want but never totally why you want it. The most valuable contribution you can make to yourself is in the quality of your relationships with others. Be truthful, faithful, and diligent in all that you do. Honesty, and forthrightness, comes as a result of your doing the right thing. So, don’t worry who you are but rather concentrate on how you are.

Developing a positive attitude :

No one is guaranteed to live life in a rose garden. You are bombarded daily with stressful and negative events that there is no getting around. At times life really stinks but you still have to face the relationships, jobs, financial matters, physical fitness, religion which all pose questions and all present challenges. Each phase of life will present complexities unique to that particular period in your life. How is your inner self contending with all the complexities you face on a daily bases? You will never be completely free from challenges but by knowing yourself you can face adversities with confidence. Each life event can be met with the assurance that you can and will triumph. It is important that in the face of adversity that you are collected and maintain a positive attitude. Anything can be overcome by a person who knows what his/her limits are and with the right attitude. It is attitude, without a doubt, that is the one most important things you possess, and guess what, you are in control of it. It’s up to you how you greet the world and everyone in it. Positive is met with positive, and your positive attitude will reflect a winning personality. Let’s face it, success and failure are the same, only on opposite sides of the rule. It’s the law of cause and effect. If effects are to be changed, the cause must be altered. It’s the law, nothing personal, it’s the same for everyone.

Effective Team Building Towards Qualitative Workplace

Quality of a product or service is directly proportional to the quality of resources used. When it comes to discuss human resources, it becomes more crucial, as efficient human resources can make better use of other resources, i.e. economic and financial etc. Having qualitative human resources in your organization, however, demands a qualitative workplace as well, and developing such an environment is a bit challenging. Since challenges create more opportunities, so does it do, for both organization and individuals.

Along with diversity in demographics, education, social and socio economic statuses, the major challenge in the above context is different level of skill sets of people working in an organization. This level differs within teams even. Generally there are three levels, i.e.:

  • Experienced
  • Experiencing
  • Inexperienced

Since organization is all about working in teams, so building efficient teams is the first and most important step towards providing human resources with a qualitative work environment. Efficient teams ensure organizational success on one hand, and personnel development on other. So, the above three levels of skill sets need equal care in this regard, though different amount of attention. For instance, one can’t say that only experienced employee’s worth for an organization. All skills levels have their own importance, and work description.

A team consisting of all experts may not be an efficient one in most of the cases, instead the right choice of resources is. Similarly, if there’s an expert and an inexperienced one, it may work for the time being but, competency level cannot be measured properly in this case, as both are extreme ends. So, there’s a strong need of building teams with appropriate percentage of all three levels.

A team having all three levels of skill sets ensures the learning environment for each resource that helps systematic work flow resulting as increased quality of output. The learning environment ensures career growth and increased quality means a lot for organization.

Effective team building, in this way, is all win to win situation then. According to researches, career growth, challenging work, being a part of team, and recognition are the major motivating factors for most of the individuals, and a qualitative workplace with effective teams provide all these at a single spot.

Build a workplace full of motivation and your employees will provide you with what your organization needs.

IT Skill For Nurses

Nurses in Software & IT Skills

A great demand for Nurses in Software & IT Skills: Due to the dedication in services of the Nurses from North East, there is a high demand of nurses from the North-East within India and abroad. But due to lack of Communication and IT Skills displayed by nurses from the North East, the Nurses face problems in their working environment and getting a job. Expertise in computers would greatly enhance nursing recruitment and would prove to be the ultimate solution to problems of adaptability that nurses from the North East face outside their home states.

About The Course:

A syllabus for training the Nurses has been developed by DOEACC Centre, Aizawl with feedbacks from leading health care institutions. The course aims to tackle six domains that have an influence on patient satisfaction with nursing care:

  • Socio-demographic (cultural) background of the patients.
  • Patients expectations regarding nursing care.
  • Physical environment.
  • Communication and information.
  • Participation and involvement.
  • Interpersonal relations between nurse and patient.

The syllabus for the proposed training programme includes topics/domains that have been found to be the main reasons for the inability of nurses from the North-East to function as efficient health care professionals both within India and abroad. The programme also includes training on Information Technology (IT) and familiarization of computers within the Health Industry.

Course structure and duration:

The Course consists of classroom and laboratory sessions for the technical subjects, and interactive sessions in developing the soft-skills. The duration of the course is 160 hours spread over eight weeks (2 months).
Each day’s training will be a mix of classroom and laboratory sessions.
