playing

When we were school going children we had ample time to play and frolic around. Every day after school we went out to the neighboring park for a match of football or plunged into the pool for a session of swimming.

Even in school we used to play cricket in the winters and football in the summers in the school’s playground or empty courtyards. There were table tennis boards which always remained crowded during recess and after school.

Throughout the year there were inter-class and inter-house tournaments. In the spring and early summer there were hockey tournaments, followed by football tournaments in the rainy season, and cricket matches in the winter. Table tennis games were held throughout the year.

Now-a-days the school children are so loaded with homework and private tuitions, that they do not have time play or interact. Immediately after returning from school they have to rush for their private tuitions. In many cases there are separate tutors for different subjects. In the evenings when they are home they either have to complete their home work of tutor’s assignments.

The remaining time is spent in watching the television. This not only has resulted in restricted outlook of growing children but also to serious health problems. I only wish the parents allow more space and free time to their children so that they can grow more autonomously.
